He decided to become a writer when he graduated, and contributed to different publications with short stories and articles. He usually spent nights reading in libraries or working as a newspaper seller in the street.
The Martian Chronicles (1.950) and Fahrenheit 451 gave him a reputation as a sci-fi writer, although he always said that he was not a sci-fi but a fantasy writer.
